Reading University 2008 scholarship recipient
Monotype Imaging Ltd. has awarded a 2008 scholarship to Julia Kaestle, a graduate student in typeface design at the University of Reading. Studying in Switzerland and Egypt prior to entering the master’s program at Reading, she gained a basic foundation in typeface design and a keen interest in Arabic calligraphy. Kaestle’s goal at Reading is to further develop her design skills and knowledge of typographic communication. “There will be many developments that will change the typographic landscape in the near future. With the knowledge gained at Reading, I look forward to helping shape that landscape,” she said.

Savannah College of Art and Design 2008 scholarships
Monotype Imaging Inc. has awarded scholarships to SCAD students, Bonnie Clas and Gregory Eckler. During the 2007-2008 school year, Clas designed several typefaces and is planning to enter them in design competitions. She cites Mathew Carter as one of her greatest typeface design influences. Eckler is an undergraduate student and a 2009 master’s of fine arts candidate at SCAD. Both he and Clas credit their life-long love of letterforms as a key driver in their pursuit of typographic design.
